Welcome
Until 14 May 2008 World Cocktail Day Comes to the Zig Zag Café
Along with The Museum of the American Cocktail, we are celebrating World Cocktail Day in order to recognize that it was over 200 years ago that the cocktail made its debut. The following are a list of classic cocktails which we think you will enjoy, all of them from Charles Baker's inestimable The Gentleman's Companion:
Creole Contentment
An insidious pleasantry from that charming hotbed of intrigue and culture which is the pulse of the Great Delta Country, New Orleans. Cognac, Madeira, maraschino, and orange bitters.
Firpo's Balloon Cocktail
... the fifth one consumed is guaranteed to set us bobbing about up under the ceiling. Rye, sweet vermouth, Pernod, egg white, and orange bitters.
The Parisian Cherry Ripe
One of the very few French cocktail inventions worth its measuring time. Dry gin, kirsch, and cherry brandy.
Mexican "Firing Squad" Special
La Cucaracha Bar, Mexico City, 1937. Tequila, lime juice, Grenadine, and Angostura bitters.
We will celebrate World Cocktail Day on May 13th, a Tuesday, from 5 PM until 2 AM. We'll see you here.
From 14 Feb 2008 New Zig Zag Site Debuts
Welcome to our new Web site. We've updated the Zig Zag site to make it easier for you to use, and easier for us to maintain. Please take a look around. Feel free to email the webmaster at this address with comments, critiques, suggestions, or bug reports.
Here on the home page we'll keep you updated on news and upcoming events at the Zig Zag Café. Our address, phone number, and hours of operation are posted at the top and bottom of every site page. Check out the Map page for an interactive map showing the exact location of the Zig Zag (hint: we're on the Pike Street Hill Climb behind the Pike Place Market in Seattle).
You can peruse our permanent food and drink menus on the pages labeled, appropriately, Food and Drink. We do have a specials menu that changes frequently: call or come in for details.
The Gear page links to our Café Press store, where you can purchase excellent quality goods featuring Zig Zag Café trademarks. The Reviews page lists some of the many awards and reviews we've received since we opened. The Reservations page informs you that we do not take reservations online. Call us instead!
Finally, the Us page tells you a little about who we are and where we came from.
Let us know what you think. And check back occasionally: we'll be adding new features soon.
Welcome!
The Zig Zag Café is a classic cocktail bar and restaurant located on the Pike Street Hill Climb behind Seattle's venerable Pike Place Market and on the way to the Seattle Aquarium. See our Map page for details.
We're open daily from 5 PM to 2 AM. Our Happy Hour is from 5 to 7 PM on weekdays. We serve good food until 1 AM every day, and our selection of whiskeys, brandies, rums & more is one of the best in the state. Our cocktail list won Best Classic Cocktail List at 2007's Tales of the Cocktail.
We offer three rotating taps featuring Maritime lagers and ales and a small selection of premium bottled beers. Our wine list includes both Old and New World reds and whites and some excellent champagnes. And don't miss our fortified wines.
Behind the bar owners Ben Dougherty and Kacy Fitch and bartenders Murray Stenson and Erik Hakkinen serve up a wide variety of cocktails, from timeless classics to innovative newcomers. Select a cocktail from our extensive drink menu, or ask the bartender to make a suggestion.
The Zig Zag Café is an unpretentious place with an eclectic crowd of old and young whose common desire is good food, good drink, and good company shared.
